With the right to a catwalk, ambient music, narration, photo and video records and an excited audience, the last day of classes at the Barbie Fashion Workshop, promoted by the Municipal Department of Culture (Secult), was marked by a fashion show. Parents and family members attended the closing of the activities, last Friday, 29, at the Espaço de Oficinas Culturais, which was attended by nine girls, aged between 7 and 11 years.
According to the workshop instructor, the plastic artist Valquíria Ayres, the activity is traditional, always carried out during both school vacation periods – winter and summer. “Fashion Barbie has been around for about 20 years and started where the former Beatriz Frantz Jungblut Culture Center was. Many girls have passed through here”, said the teacher proudly.

During five meetings, the students learned to sew different models of clothes in casual, party and bridal styles. “I teach them to sew by hand, with a needle and thread. As they still can’t give the finish they would like, I help and streamline the pieces. It’s very satisfying,” she said.
Cousins Catarina Pfaffenzeller Freitas da Silva and Maitê Scherer Pfaffenzeller, both 10 years old, looked beautiful on the catwalk that had grand finale the wedding dress parade. Despite their young age, the two are not rookies in the sewing universe. Their grandmother owns a sportswear factory and because they frequent the space, they already know a little about the subject. “The two are always around their grandmother and they even have projects for the future, they say they will continue the business”, proudly told Michele, Catarina’s mother.

For Mônica, Maitê’s mother, the workshop was an excellent opportunity to occupy the children during the holidays. “Parents can’t always go on vacation together, so it’s good that they can be entertained and learn from activities like this. Catarina and Maitê have small sewing machines, so they already get scraps and have fun. Maitê didn’t want to miss a day or think about being late”. A new class of Oficininha Moda Barbie will open in the summer vacation.
